President's Welcome Message

I would like to take this opportunity to extend best wishes for the season ahead to all associated with the Garda Rugby Football Club at Westmanstown, Lucan, Co. Dublin.

I have been associated with Garda Rugby since 1982 as both a player and official and I am honoured to have been elected as President for the 2011/2012 season. I have a hard act to follow, as last season was our most successful to date. Our 1st XV won the Leinster League Division 1B title, gaining promotion to Division 1A and presenting a tough challenge for the season ahead. Our 2nd XV also move up to a higher division as a result. Our women’s team did us the proud honour of winning the Leinster League Division 3 title and are promoted, to represent Garda Rugby in Division 2 North of the Women’s All Ireland League.

Our Mini/Youths rugby continues to gather momentum and I hope will enter into competitive rugby in the near future.

I wish to extend every  best wish and good luck to all our players at the Garda Rugby Club. To their family and friends, I thank them for their continued support and perseverance. I hope they spread the word about Garda Rugby. Thanks to our small but loyal band of supporters, who follow our teams in good times and bad. I ask  for your continued support and encouragement.

To our coaches, assistant coaches, medical staff, bagmen, ground staff, committee and all who help out at Garda Rugby, I wish you all a very successful season ahead.

I would like to thank our sponsors, G4S, Bus Eireann, The Jackson Court and particularly Westmanstown Sport and Conference Centre for your generous and continued support.

Finally, I wish to welcome all visiting players, officials and supporters to Westmanstown for the 2011/12 season. I hope you enjoy the hospitality you will receive, even if the result on the pitch does not go your way.

Michael G. Larkin,

President,

Garda Rugby Football Club.

Women round off great two days by beating Tabletoppers Belfast Harlequins 27 pts to 24 in Westmanstown with late try and conversion to go clear on top of Div 2 N AIL. Well done to all...

Wuould anybody be interested in submitting a team to a Tag Rugby World Cup one day tournament taking place on Saturday 6th August at Blackrock College RFC? We want 20 teams to represent the 20 countries in this autumn's world cup. It's going to be fun and all in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. Contact Gemma or Maeve on 01 873 0422 or email fundraising@imn da.ie.
